East Haven, CT Fatal plane crash 08/09/13
#1
Around 11:30 am this morning, a plane with only the pilot on board crashed into two houses killing himself and two children located in 64 Charter Oak Avenue.  This was reportedly the pilots second career crash. The first crash occurred on the Columbia River.  The plane was on its second attempted landing in heavy rain and fog.

The plane demolished both houses.  The tail was the only identifiable part left to the plane.

This incident is from my hometown.  The airport is in direct flight path of these homes.  While the runways are in New Haven, the rest of the airport property is in East Haven.  Any response to an aircraft incident gets responses from both towns.  A sad day for all the responders indeed....

In June 1971, an Allegany airlines plane crashed at the oppisite end of the airport in East Haven along the shoreline on a pea-soup foggy morning, falling far short of the runway killing 28 souls aboard and seeting 3 cottages ablaze.  It remains Connecticuts worst aviation diaster.
