In proposed budget cuts the Cincinnati Fire Division could close one half of the current fire houses!
What is the mayor and his bean counters thinking?

Not only in Cincinnati, but across the Ohio River in Covington, KY, they are having a tough time. I would bet most fire department's in the USA could say the same.

Yes, both are having great difficulty. Covington even has a rogue council person who likes to get drunk on a Friday night and spew profanities at the IAFF Local. It is very toxic.
It appears that in Cincinnati, the city has been "paying the bills" the past several years by "having garage sales" to make up the expected shortfalls. This year, they had planned on something along the lines of selling parking lots and it didn't happen...thus, the humongous shortfall is looming, which equals laying off dozens and dozens of FFs, losing their SAFER funding, and closing around half of the fire companies. It is a mess.

Update...as of a recent IAFF Local post...a plan is on the tables with NO LAYOFFS for Cincinnati FD. Good news for the city and the brothers/sisters.
