1000 year old fire story
#1
While planning my next trip to Japan, I found there are a large number of

Imperial graves in Kyoto, where we plan to spend a week. The WIKI has

an unbelievable amount of information about Japanese Emperors.

This account about the Emperor's Sacred Mirror caught my eye.

EN'YUU, 64th Emperor of Japan. Highlights of his life.

He became Emperor in 969 at age 8. His reign was uneventful until 976.

1. On June 8, 976, the Imperial Palace burned down; and the Sacred Mirror

was blackened to such an extent that it reflected no light.

2. On December 31, 980, the Imperial Palace burned down and the Sacred

Mirror was half destroyed. (Happy New Year!)

3. On December 5, 982, the Imperial Palace burned down, and the Sacred

Mirror was reduced to a lump of melted metal which was collected and

presented to the Emperor. (the 3rd time never fails!. I'll bet he was

    thrilled)

.

On March 1, 991, EN'YUU, who, as was common, had become a priest,

died at age 32.
