Watkins, Colorado Brush Fire 7/17/13

This afternoon Bennett, Sable-Altura & Strasburg Firefighters were dispatched to a brush fire near Watkins Road & Jewell Avenue.  Crews arrived at the local gun range to find about 5 acres going.  Mutual aid crews from Buckley AFB & Byers were placed on standby and quickly requested to the scene.  Gusty winds began pushing the fire toward structures and spotting was observed 1/4 in front of the head.  More units were requested from Aurora & Brighton also.  The fire was placed under control within 45 minutes and looked to be about 50 acres total.  No structures were damaged and no injuries reported.
