Did some scanning today, most of these shots were taken during the mid-1980's, I'm looking closely at these for quality, but with a 35mm camera and bad light, they are certainly not the best. Essex Engine 651 ran with this 1981 Mack R-model/Pierce 1000/1000 pumper. Later in its service life it was refurbished with a smaller 950 gallon tank and loaded down with 2,000' of LDH. Turn of River Fire Company of Stamford ran this Mack MC-model/RSI rescue truck. The city of Stamford runs a fully-staffed career department in the downtown area, known as "the City", and 5 independent volunteer fire companies, commonly referred as the "Big 5", in the outlying areas, known as "the Town". There is much discussion and arguments (for and against) for having career staff assigned to the volunteer houses. Guilford Eagle Hose once ran this 1970 Maxim S-model pumper as Engine 152. Guilford is a typical New England town, with growth centered around the Town Green. Guilford's 3 "downtown" companies are located around the green, all within walking distance of each other. Guilford Washington Engine Company ran this 1975 Maxim F-model pumper as Engine 151. At one time, Guilford's three downtown companies all ran with Maxims. Washington ran this rig, Eagle Hose ran with the 1970 S-model, and FC Spencer Hook and Ladder ran a 1973 F-model tele-squrt. Branford Engine 8 ran this 1966 Maxim S-model 750gpm pumper. This rig was originally red. The Metro-New Haven area was a hot bed of Maxim Rigs. Kind of an odd-ball angle of Branford Engine 2's 1976 Maxim F-model 1000/500 pumper. Note the transverse mounted booster reel, a Branford trademark, and the hanging helmets and boots. The Nichols Fire Company of Trumbull ran this 1960's era Maxim F-model pumper as Engine 301. Originally delivered with a fully open cab, it appears to be retro-fitted with a canvas top fabricated by the NFC. East Haven Engine 5, a 1970 Maxim F-model 1000/500 pumper shown after being refurbished. The original gas motor was replaced with a 6V-71 Detroit Diesel, a cab was added, and the entire truck was repainted. The reflective striping was added later on, and was the first truck in town to have this feature. East Haven Car 5 was assigned this 1978 Dodge 4WD pick-up with a slip-on pump and tank combo. In addition to responding to brush fires, which were in abundance back then, the truck was also equipped with a front plow for snow removal. The truck was purchased shortly after the Blizzard of 1978.

Ex-Mt. Kisco, NY 2007 Spartan/Smeal 100' Ron Bogardus photo The Poquonock Fire Company of Windsor still runs this 1973 Mack MB-model/Imperial 750/2000 rig as Tanker 5. When this photo was taken, Poquonock, like the other three fire companies in Windsor were independent of each other. They were all consolidated into The Windsor Volunteer Fire Department in the early 1990's. This rig is well traveled. A 1977 Maxim F-model 85' aerial was purchased by Mystic Fire District in Groton. In 1999, it was sold to Essex. When Essex replaced this by a Sutphen aerial-tower, story has it being sold to Haddam. I guess the old addage is true "Old Fire Trucks never die, They just get refurbished and keep answering the alarm" Durham 2 runs this 1997 Spartan/Central States 1750/1000 pumper equipped with both Class A and B foam. Durham doesn't use an engine designation, using the Durham # instead for its pumpers. Their tanker is not assigned a number, just simply known as 'Tanker'. Wish I had a better camera, sorry for the fuzzy, out-of-focus shots
