Next up is LRFD's Apparatus 181, a 1950 Kenworth 55 foot city service ladder truck.

Here is another former Seattle Fire Department rig, Apparatus 169, a 1950 Kenworth 1500 GPM pumper and presently owned by the LRFD. In 1978 it was sold to the Skykomish, WA Fire Department, and while in their possession, it was upgraded to a 500 gallon booster tank.

And a shot from the rear, all rigged up to ride the back step. What's the valve on the supply line?
It's a manifold. SFD's SOP was to drop that in front of a building and then reverse to a hydrant. I'm not sure if that's how they do it anymore or what. I have a series of pics that my dad took at a fire in 1992 that show them doing it -- I'll try to get them scanned and posted soon. There was nothing like those KWs when they were in service. I went to law school at Seattle University from 1999-2002 and quite a few of them were still around as reserves while I was living in the city. Loudest rigs I've ever heard.
Thanks, Bryce, I wasn't sure if it was a manifold or some type of HP valve arrangement. They still carry something on the end of the supply line inside the rear compartment.
Here's a view of a manifold on a 1991 Seattle rig. On later orders a compartment door was added as a standard requirement.

I shot Rescue 14 in Seattle a few years ago. It is/was a 1995 Mobile Tech. Ford Cargo heavy rescue.
Seattle runs this 2000 Ford F550 outfitted in 2001 by Pacific Utility Equip. with 1800# of CO2.
Another interesting piece of apparatus in Seattle is MVU-1, a 2004 GMC T7500 with a MVU-50 Tempest fan mounted on an elevating platform.
Terry, thanks for posting photos of those special rigs. I thought I'd post an updated photo of Spare Rescue 80, as it was parked at the shops last year.
Thanks for the tailboard shots...it's cool to see how others operate!
A few more KW's.
This 1951 Kenworth, APP #134, served with King County Fire District 2 in Burien, WA and Grays Harbor Fire District 10 in Wishkah, WA, before being purchased by the LRFD in 2000. It will be restored as funds become available.
Apparatus #132 is a 1940 custom built Kenworth pumper, was purchased by the LRFD in 1983. It was formally owned by the Snohomish Fire Department for 32 years, and served Lake Roesiger for another 11 years.
A former Seattle Fire Department rig, this is another 1950 Kenworth, APP #194, owned by SFD and is classified as one of it's "Heritage" rigs. It is permanently on display in the museum.
Another former Seattle Fire Department rig, a 1946 Kenworth 1250 GPM, APP #155. It is presently owned by a LRFD member.
