[/quote] thats always been wierd to me that SFFD, unlike most other FD's in CA never had a Crown Ladder or Engine. Of Course they were more known for there bif Alf fleet . Not to mention there guys always look like they belong back east with there Cairns New Yorker Helmets they wear. That's what I wear and it suits me fine. I'll ad the other Crown apparatus that I photographed during my Santa Monica visit in 1993.
To start here's Engine 4. In those days I didn't write down many specifications while taking photo's. Maybe other members can ad them? René de Caluwé The Netherlands
And if my notes are correct, this Crown was a former Engine that was rebuild into a foam unit to run at Fire Station 5 near the Santa Monica Airport. I believe back in 1993 it was already a reserve unit (a second hand Crash Truck from Palm Springs was in use for aircraft emergencies).

The Santa Monica rigs haven't been included much in the thread in the past, and the photo of the telesqurt is a gem since there aren't many photos of it out there, especially now that it is in Mexico. Yes, the wide body pumper is that last Crown..technically a Van Pelt...produced. Needless to say, the SMFD guys pulled all the Van Pelt badging and replaced it with Crown badging. The truck now resides in Louisiana.

Last time I seen one used was during a 4th alarm fire I was on last August. A very under used rig in our City. Rico
This may have been asked before. I know some of the LA City and County rigshad Hall-Scott motors. What diesel engines were they running? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the great answer to my question. That is simply amazing that a gas motor lasted that long.

[/quote] If it was F1627, it was built with a Waukesha, but repowered with a Detroit 6V92. LAFD Wagon 17 nicknamed "Big Bertha". Went to the LAFD museum this last Saturday, for the first time. Not the best shot of the rig, due to it was in the rear of the apparatus floor. 2000 gpm pump & 400 gal tank on this beauty. Crown # F-1338. I really encourage you to visit this place. Tons of displays both on the apparatus floor & upstairs!! Open only on Saturdays from 10-2. So, plan accordingly. Picture of the Deck Gun. To give you an idea how massive this rig is, I'm 6'4" & the camera was just over my head. Lol
