Bob...good stuff again. As for our old Seagrave/3D 100' aerial, no it wasn't kept by choice. It was originially delievered white like the others. Around '94-'95 it was sent to TDC Huntsville and "refurbed" and painted red. When it returned and was placed back in service the aerial was found to be rusting from the inside out when it was set up one day on the apron for apparatus day. Orders were issued not to use the aerial and it ran as a "stick wagon" for a few months before going downtown and having the aerial removed. It then returned, sans aerial, and ran again as a stick wagon until being replaced by one of the 1st E\-One trucks in '97. It was disposed of directly not spending any time as a reserve (go figure without an aerial).

After this era of apparatus, and beginning with the '97 trucks and '99 pumpers, the HFD fleet as a whole has turned around in a big way. From reserves that were barely usable to our current reserve fleet, HFD is leaps and bounds ahead of where we where 10 years ago. We even have reserves with air conditioning now...Ha.

Well, it looks like those Pierce Aerial's are going to be lonely in the fleet for a while...

So why did 3D build the body instead of Seagrave?

Thanks,

Hey Larry, heard a rumor that HFD bought 2 Crimson aerials for a trial. Any truth to that?

Hadn't heard that one. The 2 "trial" aerials were the Pierce apparatus for L28 and L68. The word I got for pumpers is that there is 1 pumper from Crimson on order for evaluation. Slated for E25 since it is being bought with CBG funds.

I am sure 25's will give it a good beat'n, oh, I mean trail.

If it goes anything like our L4, its going it might be awhile before 25's would get it.

Hi Frank. You turn up and post some good stuff. Records I recived from Steve Skaar (thanks, Steve) show that 80-318 served at E7 and E3, I'm not sure in what order but ptrobably at E7 first. 80-319 went to E8 qnd is probalby the rig pictured in post 154. Can't be sure, there were a lot of similar looking WLF's and E8 stayed towards the top of the list for new ones.

Merry Christmas.
