The "original" 1999 ALF Tower Ladder (replaced the 1985 Mack/Baker) Know I've said this, but a twin was built to this spec, it was the Tower Boston demo'd and now its TL3 in Elizabeth, NJ.

They're sharp looking. Look to be in good condition for spares. And I know you guys worked the hell out of them. Yonkers seems to do well with replacements given some of the recent fiscal issues.

I remember when they first got it and you removed or almost removed someone from the third floor using the (at the time) brand new TL-71's bucket.

hahaha...we TOTALLY bugged up that job...could have gone BLS but Weigand worked him so HE could ride in the bucket...he could have fit in the elevator..we just wanted to see the new tower ladder..LOL..

The spare fleet is now in good condition, now. We had a bunch of junk years back, no spares to be found (I've ridden anything from a pick up to a Dodge K-car in place of a pumper)After the Continental Compac boondagle, a schedule and spec's began being formed (finally) which started with the FDNY style Macks, and led up to now. The 99' ALF replaced the 85 Mack/Scope after 14-years and much fire duty. The 99' TL was replaced after 10-years, and saw alot of fire too, we almost lost the rig at the huge Oak St. job (have pix of it burned somewhere)! TL-75's 2002 was replaced after 7-years because the funding was there, and mostly to get it pre-new emission which would have made it cost more $$$. The apparatus replacement schedule is up to 10-years front line, 5-years spare.



Yes, the "Men" do get upset during these fiscal times when a new rig arrives, but there's guys getting laid off at same time !!! The apparatus were actually scheduled and bonded long before the yearly budget comes about. On a brighter note, the YFD just received funding from the SAFER grant to rehire our laid off a demoted members, grant came down this week !!

Does anyone have any compartment equipment shots of the collapse rig and the USAR rig? Saw both on the Hackney website and they both look decked out and well-organized. I know it might be boring to some of the members on the site, but I'm always interested in how the rigs are set-up for use.

Can you explain theYFD numbering system? Why did they get away from traditional numbering system? Thanks in advance.

We switched to the (Westchester) County numbering system in late 1970's Yonkers ended up w/ 300-series Engine Co's & 70-Series Truck Co's, so pre-70's Ladder-1 became Ladder-71, Pre Engine-6, became Engine-306 (personally I hate it!) the exclusions was my company is assigned County# R-11, but we retain Rescue-1, and Ex Engine-11, became Engine-311, then Squad-311, and finally Sq-11, due to the CAD only accepting 4-digits.....(whew)yes, very confusing.
