Some pictures from the annual East Boston/North End Columbus Day Parade held this year in East Boston.
First up is Car 1, Ladder 21 is in the background.
Engine 56.
The mirror in the picture is from a schoolbus that was misdirected up the street while Engine 9, 56, Tower Ladder 2, Car 1, W25, H2, H3, the TCU were going in the other direction- ruinning a great show for folks on the west side of the street!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> As much as I respect them, the Boston Police Department were way too liberal when it came to street closures this year. Have to wait until 2008 to get another chance to photograph those rigs <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
A welcome newcomer to the Columbus Day Parade this year was the former Engine 5 hose wagon, featured in this thread while still in service.

[/quote] Question was this rig the only one Boston bought? Also what was the reasoning for the purchase and lack of others being purchased? Thanks in advance. -John P.
The Sutphen Quint was bought as a quick fix during the massive cutbacks of companies in the early 1980's after the passage of Prop 2.5, which decimated fire and police depts across the state.
It was assigned to Engine 20 in Dorchester. Never really worked well for the BFD. Kind of an expirement that was doomed to fail from the first. I have more info about this some where I will try and locate it and post it. Hope that this helps |
