Not bashing quints, lord knows I dont want to start that discusion, but I would not mind if the east coast version were I work would follow them. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Last one from me!
I wish they would have kept the front bumpers red rather than add the chrome.
In talking to a STLFD member yesterday, he said that with the arrival of these new pumpers, the radio designations would be changing. The pumpers would be designated engines, the quints would be re-designated trucks, and the others would remain hook-and-ladders.

My only concern w/where the crosslays are StLouis rigs have a bad habit of getting apparatus rear ended. I see a potential of being out of commission with even a minor accident. The other thing is ergonomics as far as deploying the line. Have to come up w/something creative. Im not saying I dont like it..looks cool, saves compartment space, and eliminates the need to climb up on the rig, but Ive never really heard or seen to many guys falling off from loading line either. One question though, from all the pics Ive seen I havent noticed where the booster line is. I wouldnt be upset if they didnt have one, but I know StLFD and Im sure its there..back on the drivers side above the panel again? Now that I think about it...I dont see the deck gun either, and I know its on there somewhere.....maybe its just the shots/angles. Guess Ill get to see it all in detail soon enough. Our current Smeal (E28) is out of commission for good. We were told we would get our new rig before the quint comes back in service from a total referb. Bob, from the spy shots I saw, the booster is above the hydraulic load tray. And Im going to "ass"ume that the deck gun is mounted above the pump panel; as like regular pumpers. Maybe a guess too, that the deck gun will be remote controlled. Im quite surprised they dished out the cash for the light tower. That will help on highway runs.
The booster reel is exactly where we left it above the ehl tray. I was also told that the monitor is mounted in the middle somewhere

Ive heard this too, but cant confirm by anyone with authority.
So, which engine co's will be getting the new pumpers other than E8 ?
I have no clue who is getting them. all i know is that the 8's get first dibbs because their house is the smallest in the city.
This might have been answered before but is st louis loosing ff positions because they are going back to engine and trucks. What is the staffing on rigs now and after engine and trucks are inservice. Like most places staffing on quints is more than engines and trucks i guess that they will reduce the over all number of ff on the department. If I remember correct they reduced the number of ff when they went to the quint concept.
4 people per truck in the city, except squads that run with 6. Occasionally, there will be 3, if someone gets pulled to get on the medic unit. There is an E&A meeting today to vote on layoffs of 30 people, 24 through retirements and 19 through attrition.
I dont believe they are planning reducing the number of companies if at all possible. No one wants to lay anyone off, but in MY opinion there will be a reduction in the workforce here at the very least thru atrrition.
As far as who is getting one, I dont know either, though we have "heard" the 28s are. |
