Great photos as usual Eli! Thanks for sharing. I see that the NYPD Motor Shops like all others, loves Duct Tape!!! LOL
an oldie, a 1995 (?) Chevy Caprice wagon, marked for Highway 2 (Brooklyn) Photo was taken last week in Mt Vernon, NY (just north of the Bronx) through a train window
What does the NYPD do with the old ESU trucks? Are they worth looking into, or are they run into the ground. Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance
Anything NYPD has that is due for replacement is usually run into the ground. Rare sight to see anything recycled. Some of the large ESU trucks have found new homes. Mt Vernon PD has x-ESU large truck they operate as their ownn ESU. Corrrections might still have an OLD NYPD ESU truck they use.

Sorry if I am lost but are these for parking enforcement?
They are used by police officers that are usually summons units, but if they see something they will respond to it. The Traffic division has been using Toyota Prius and hybrid Ford Escapes

Is this the Mack you are talking about? http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/inde...st&p=20723 I thought someone said it was ex-FDNY. Scott
Yup, that's the one. There were originally two of these 1990 Mack DM/Saulsbury units, assigned to ESU 4 in the Bronx and ESU 9 in Queens. If you go to Mike Martinelli's page, FDNYtrucks.com, click on "Special Units", then scroll down and click on "NYPD Vehicles", there is a picture of this rig when it was assigned to NYPD ESU 4 (16th picture down).
IIRC, once taken out of service, the NYPD's old ESU trucks are able to be "acquired" by other law enforcement agencies like Mt. Vernon and Nassau County have. Don't think there are any serving in the fire service, as they are really custom built for PD operations (gun lockers, etc.), however, a recently retired Port Authority of NY and NJ ESU "big" truck was put in service by the Tarrytown, NY FD.
