To all the Richmond folks..... I see they are selling 4 - 105' quints and all 3 rescue squads. What are they replacing them with and when can we see them?
They'll be getting two 105' quints, two 75' quints, two rescues, and a pumper, all based on the Pierce Arrow XT chassis. It will be some time before they're in, as their apparatus committee just did engineering in Appleton this week. One of our fellow Firepixers is on the RFD apparatus committee, I'll let him chime in with some of the details if he wishes...

Why a pumper is Richmond planning to move back to trucks and engines?
Remember that every station in the City already has a quint and FRV or pumper in it now, so pumpers are still a common site there. I don't want to speculate on what the potential role of this one will be, though.

Man, I wish someone in the know would chime in. The City will not have only 2 rescue companies and 2 105'quints. Must be cut back time again. I hope we hear more soon. And what happens if someone purchases the rigs before the new ones are in. It's still a long way out for the new rides to arrive. I'm stymied!
I too an a little perplexed about selling all three rescues, with only two on order, but I doubt seriously they're eliminating a rescue company.
As for someone purchasing one of the ones for sale, I'd bet that delivery of the used rig would be contingent on the delivery of the new rigs to RFD. I'm teaching today with a couple of RFD members, I'll see what they have heard....

After my second cup of coffee and some thinking while doing yard work, I'll bet Rescue 3 gets the CAFS engine and not a heavy rescue. Makes sense to me. They protect the tank farms and have the Hazmat unit and the box truck to carry what they need. We shall see.
As of right now there are no known plans to eliminate any companies. Taylor's numbers of what we have on order are correct. All three Rescue's are beyond the end of their service life (anywhere from 190-210k miles!). The 4 105's are all tired as well with each averaging about 100k miles. The department is attempting to purge the fleet of the vehicles that are creating the highest repair bills. July 1 starts the new fiscal year and we have additional money budgeted for a second purchase. I would expect the 3rd rescue to be ordered with that money. So far it is just rumor and speculation as to which companies will receive the new rigs. Yesterday I was told Quint 5 could see the one new pumper. It will certainly change between now and the time of delivery. We are told to expect the new rigs around Oct/Nov. I'll try and keep everyone posted as to what is happening as best as I can.
Thanks for all the replies! It surprised me when i saw them for sale. I hadn't heard about Richmond ordering anything. I'm glad to see they are getting some new units.
My dept just sold 3 units to Brindlee Mnt. From what everyone has told me it was a great experience. They had buyers for 2 of the 3 trucks before we had the new units ordered. I believe they gave us a deposit and said when the new engines arrive they would be up with in a couple of weeks to deliver to the new owners. The new engines arrived, went into service and within a week the guys from Brindlee showed up check in hand and drove the old trucks out the door.
Hey guys - Billy with Brindlee Mountain here... to answer the earlier question, yes the old Richmond units will be available after the new rigs are delivered. Late 2011 is the last update I got...
As far as I know there hasn't been a preconstrution meeting as of yet. Its going to be a tight schedule for the new rides to be made and delivered by October. Back in 1997 the first rides didn't arrive until November and the preconstruction was in May.

We were told this week that our order should hit the line right around September 1. From there it takes roughly 50-60 days for construction. So we are hoping to see something last week of October/first week of November. I'm not sure if the process has gotten faster or if there are simply fewer orders ahead of us in line.
Just wondering guys, I just saw that Richmond has some additional units for 2012 0n order, two 105' quints and a PUC pumper. Could the PUC be replacing the third rescue?
FYI - this should give them 4-105' quints, 2-75' quints, 2 heavy rescues, a pumper, and a PUC pumper on order.

The 2nd order was made with 2011-2012 budget money; 2x 105' quints and the PUC rescue engine. The rescue engine was dropped on us by the fire chief with little explanation. He also mandated the PUC chassis despite the fact that the committee was not interested in going that route. Last he told us, Rescue 2 will get the PUC. He also went on to say that he could "eventually see the rescue engine going to 24". Why not send it to 24 in the first place? <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_crazy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> He also told us that Rescue 2 will not be dispatched any differently than they are today. So the purpose of the engine company capabilities at the cost of rescue equipment really has all of us baffled. July 1st 2012 we should have another 2.7 million allocated. Personally I'd like to see us get the 3rd heavy rescue and then buy engines with the rest of the money. We are in the middle of a consultant's study right now that is developing a 20 year plan for the department. Hopefully we can see what that looks like prior to this next round being ordered. Later today I'm going to post some images from last weeks final inspection trip of the engine and quints. Also a few shots of the two rescues still under construction.

Did you buy any chance measure Q1 to make sure it will fit and kill the rumour that it is too tall?

We did our own for years and we worked out good. The FD is still in business too.
