Tour of New Jersey

That Young snorkel made at least one trip to Butler, maybe two. Definitely for our 85th anniversary parade in 1987 which was the combination NJ State Exempts Convention and North Jersey VFA Parade -- were you with them that day? I'm also thinking it may have made the trip for our 75th anniversary in 1977. BTW, Secaucus always had a very nice bi annual firemen's parade.

I wasn’t around in the company in 87 way before my time was I 10 years old at that time and the 77 was when I was born. The Bi Annual Parade ended because of the old town administration didn’t want any more beer to be given out at all. And know the mayor who it was at that time got nailed during the big FBI/State sting that hit the state still waiting for his trail to being.

Do I understand this right... Newark is about to shut down stations/layoff personnel, but they're still buying brand new rigs?

Newark just got a grant and will be keeping some spots filled. I think this money is good for 1-2 years of funding... But does not look like it will help A LOT. Keep your eyes open...

Almost always, personnel and equipment are funded separately. Sort of like how these cities lay off firemen but hire librarians and build parks in certain councilman's districts <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/3_12_21.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='3_12_21' /> <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/banghead.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Banghead' /> <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_crazy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Icon_crazy' />

Personnel are paid out of the Operating Budget, apparatus are paid thru the Capital Budget, two totally separate items. The first two pumpers were likely paid from the 2009 Capital while the third was paid from Haz-Mat funds. Those funds cannot be used for personnel. Even with these new additions, Newark continues to have an older fleet of apparatus which suffer from hard use and a severely reduced repair and maintenance facility.

The plan for the grant money is to hire new Firefighters and possibly open the three companies that were closed. Unknown time line at this point.

Chief, what companies were closed?

I think it was E-16 (Ironbound), Engine 12 (Clinton Ave.) & Ladder 1 (Orange St). (Ladder 1 moved to Ladder 11 and remains in service as L-11). Battalion Chief 1 also closed at some point. Rescue 1 also moved from Orange st to Ladder 11's quarters but I'm not sure if they are still riding out of there.

Thought Tower Ladder 1 went to Ladder 6 on Mt Prospect St???

The 1997 E-1 elevating platform, previously Ladder 1 , went to Ladder 6 when L-1 received their 2008 ALF. L-1 brought their ALF with them when they became L-11. L-11's 2003 E-1 ladder is being used as a fully equipped reserve ladder, I believe. There you go...clear as mud!

A few Spy shots of Verona's new KME designated E.14. It was a very overcast day and it was sandwiched between 2 trucks so this is the best I could do before it is delivered.
