Yes a Paramedic Assesment Unit carry's 1 member who is a Trained Paramedic and usually carry's some ALS Gear. Engne 42 in Eagle Rock is a Paramedic Assesment Engine.

Assessment Engines and Light Forces have 1 FF/Paramedic on board. There used to be Paramedic Engines with 2 Paramedics but those went away and became for the most part assessment resources.

Thank you, was curious. I know there are some differences in how Departments operate out there as opposed to here. SInce posting that, done some more research to find even a lot of the Special Ops apparatus out here now (i.e. HazMat, Heavy Rescues) are also full ALS capable units. Although I can see the HazMats being ALS, being as your ToxMedics or HazMedics are on the HazMat Teams. I think only 1 Department in my County (which is small, just North of Orlando) still runs BLS Engines and Tower, however I guess these would be what is concidered an Assessment Unit as they usually have a Paramedic on all 3 Engines and their Tower each shift, and carry some, very limited amount of ALS gear. Thank you again for the insight.

Well Larry, after July 5, 2011, the following changes in staffing and resources will happen in Division 1:
*Battalion 1 (to become part of South Division)
-Station 3: Division 1 will be closed (both the Assistant Chief and Staff Assistant). Task Force 3, RA 3 and RA 803 will remain.
-Station4:
*Task Force 4, Squad 4, RA 4 and RA 804 will move to Station 21. The Haz Mat Tender will be assigned here as well.
*E21 and RA 21 will be moved to station 4. New apparatus at Station 4 will be: Assessment Engine 4, RA 4, RA 804 and Battalion 1.
*EMS 1 will move to Station 44 and become EMS 2.
-Station 9: Engine 209 will be closed. RA 809 will be added. Engine 9, Truck 9, RA 9, RA209 and RA 809 will be staffed.
-Station 10: Light Force 10 will be upgrade to assessment light force. The station will be reassigned to Battalion 11.
-Station 17: Light Force 17 closed! Engine 17 will be upgraded to Assessment Engine. A 600 series Ready Reserve RA will be added. AE and RA 17 will remain open.
*Battalion 2 (South Division)
-Station 42 RA 842 will be closed and turned into a Ready Reserve RA.
-Station 44 will now house Battalion 2 (moved from FS 55) and EMS 2.
Talk about a full house here! Engine, RA 844, Battalion 2, EMS 2, Brush Patrol and Swift Water!
-Station 50 the Assessment Engine will be closed and the Light Force will be upgraded to an Assessment Light Force. A 600 series Ready Reserve RA will be added.
-Station 55 the Battalion Chief will move to Station 44, however, Staff Assistant position will be eliminated.
-Station 56 will be reassigned to Battalion 5.
*Battalion 5 (to the North Division)
-Fire Station 56 will now be part of Battalion 5
-Station 35 engine company will be closed, Light Force will be upgraded to Assessment Light Force. A 600 series Ready Reserve RA will be added.
-Station 52 Engine will become and Assessment Engine. Also EMS 5 will be moved to Station 59 and become EMS 9.
*Battalion 7 (closed)
-Station 1: the engine company will be closed. A 600 series Ready Reserve RA will be added.
-Station 2: upgrade the Light Force to an Assessment Light Force. Battalion 7 will be closed. Station will become part of Battalion 1.
-Station 16: RA 816 will be closed and turned into a Ready Reserve.
-Station 25: realigned to Battalion 1
-Station 47 will have the Light Force closed and gain a 600 series Ready Reserve RA. Station will now run with E47 and RA47. E247 will become E447 and RA 647.
*Battalion 9 (part of North Division)
-Fire Station 37: the battalion chief remains but the Staff Assistant position is eliminated.
-Fire Station 59 will now house EMS 9
-Fire Station 69 will have their Light Force upgraded to an Assessment Light Force. Engine will be closed.
*Battalion 11 (South Division)
-Fire Station 6: A 600 series Ready Reserve RA will be added
-Fire Station 11: the Light Force will be upgraded to an Assessment Light Force
-Fire Station 20: the engine company to be closed, the Light Force will be upgraded to an Assessment Light Force and they will gain a 600 series Ready Reserve RA.
If you look at the realignment in the big picture, the department is ensuring that each station will have a paramedic resource (RA or Assessment resource) available.

Not sure about the Foam Tender at 17s, my guess is that it will remain there. Station 21 remains in Battalion 13. They will be gaining the HAZ MAT Task Force.

Foam Tender 17 will remain at 17s and Rescue 4 and 804 aren't going anywhere they will simply change call signs when they become Station 21. Once again the City went after the Staff Assistant Postions.
Under the new realignment plan, the staff assistant (SA) positions will be renamed Emergency Incident Technicians (EIT). Some battalion chiefs will keep their SA, others will have the SA position eliminated. The new plan calls for all battalion chiefs to be “paired” up so 2 neighboring battalion chiefs will have 1 EIT and an EMS battalion captain.
Ex: Battalion 1 will be paired with Battalion 2 so they can both share the EIT and EMS 2.
With EIT NO EIT
Battalion 1 paired with Battalion 2. Shares EMS 2
Battalion 5 paired with Battalion 14. Shares EMS 14
Battalion 10 paired with Battalion 17. Shares EMS 17
