Tandem would have been if one pumnper was pumping fom the hydrant and the second or third take their discharge line and increasing the pressure and gpms. Something as in relay operations.

Luckily, I suppose, I came in when they did teach it.
Along with emergency hose jackets, jockey sticks aka hose controls, and bridging.

Since I haven’t had any fires to take in lately I had to search the archives once again.... May 27, 1973 5-11 and 5 Specials 42nd and Keeler. I don’t know who took this photo but I sure remember this fire..Chas Levy Ink co, L Fish furniture, A&P grocery warehouse all fully involved as a result of an explosion. The fire commissioner’s driver tried to pull a 2-11 by phone, but as I recall the office wouldn’t give it to him.... I was on the scene of this job with my Dad and its one I’ll never forget. Steve
this is dated May 1994, and as I recall this was on or near Goose Island..I spotted the smoke on my way to the FAO and took it in...a big pile of rubbish. Engine 14 is using an old Pierce that has had quick water modifications and was more or less a permanent spare. I think this rig replaced their old ALF century. Steve

This was around Lawrence and Kimball I think...mid 90’s or so ..a 3-11. Commissioner Galante was big into aerial pipes and wanted several in service at this job.... I see a now retired Captain in the photo...he was fanning on his daley day...... Steve

I observed firestorm conditions there

Fire Rips Through Polk Bros. Store In Melrose Park
June 02, 1987
An extra-alarm fire raged through the Polk Bros. store and warehouse in Melrose Park Monday evening, forcing the evacuation of several neighboring businesses.
No injuries were reported in the blaze, which destroyed the complex of showrooms and storage warehouses.
Firefighters said a faulty sprinker system and a lack of available water made the fire difficult to control. The blaze, which began in the carpeting section of the warehouse around 7:30 p.m., raced through the complex after the water pump that feeds into the sprinkler system blew out shortly after the fire started.
