I took some sorry pics of this rig with my daughters camera and posted them on the CF-700 thread. I dont know about the plans for this rig but I saw it at a truck repair shop on US90 East of Pascagoula a couple of weeks ago. I will try and get info on its future.

I don't have the information on the Grand Bay Mack Snorkel, but I know that Grand Bay purchased it from the Eden Fire Co. in Lancaster County, PA. I think it is a 1972 Mack 55'

Info on the Grand Bay snorkel:



1974 Mack CF-795F, 4-door, 1250/500, 55 ft snorkel - purchased used from the Pikesville Fire Company, (Baltimore County, MD) for $100,000 by the Eden Fire Company (Lancaster County, PA). Delivered 12/22/78. The company members did all the sanding for it to be repainted. It was placed into service on 4/15/79 and housed on 10/7/79. It was sold to the Grand Bay Volunteer Fire Company (Mobile County, AL), in 10/94 for $57,000. First snorkel in operation in Mobile County.

I was in Eden yesterday shooting the tiller and rescue engine and this rig came up in our conversation. In the back of the firehouse they have their 1952 Mack A model pumper. they were going to try and get inside before the end of the day to start restoring it. its not in too bad of shape and they hope to get it back together in about 9 months. it should be a beauty when its done!

In the county yes, the City Of Mobile had 2 WLF/Hi-Ranger snorkels, along with 3 other acive ladder companies. There are 3 other FD's in Mobile Co that run Ladders nowdays, Prichard has a 75' E\-One Quint, Saraland has a 75 Foot Sutphen (I believe) and Seven Hills has thier Maxim.

I can provide some more info on this truck! Ridge culver is my neihboring department here in the town of Irondequoit NY. This rig has been out of service for less than 5 years. It was (while i was young still) the third pumper out of the bar for the longest time. The first two pupmpers were twin Pierce dash cabs that they had bought in the late 80's. Around 98 or so, the "twins" which were porrly maintained began to have a lot of problems ranging from blowing tires to tranny's to pump failure. I myself was on a large brush fire when the pump fried on their then engine 183. Eventually, they ordered the replacement for 184 (this truck as it was the oldest) not realizing how bad the other 2 pumpers were. the new 184 was less than 2 months from completion when 183 fried and they saw their problems. So what did they do? They canceled the 184 order (that was smart, note my sarcasm) and re sent bids to replace not 1, but all 3 pumpers at once. shortly there after, the old Seagrave 184 came to glory as the first out truck on every run (they average around 1800 calls a year). The truck was solid, pumped like crazy and dependable still after almost 30 years. the "newer" pierces could not keep up. One of them would not even hold water anymore. The story came to an end when the department took delivery of 3 crimson pumpers (which I understand they dont like at all). The Seagrave was the last to go out of service. When it left the building for the final time, many members were present and were sad to see her go. She was and I suspect still is 100% functional, and the only mechanical problem she has was she needed a new muffler.

When I photographed it in 2000, this ex-Philadelphia 1968 Seagrave tractor was being utilized as a junkyard tow truck in Downingtown, PA. Judging by the 1990 inspection sticker still in the windshield, it hadn't been on the road since being retired as a reserve piece.

Where is that last Maxim tiller from? Looks like I see "Milford" on the front of it, but it says "____ City Fire Dept." on the door. Is it Dale City maybe?

Here's an odd one. I know Univ. of Tennessee's colors are orange, but somehow this doesn't fit. Thru the black paint over a name on the door, I thought I could make out "Clearwater". Did Clearwater, Fla. run this style of paint? Odd pattern for an older truck.

Yes, Clearwater did. I have seen photos of this truck during better days. Last time I heard they were still using this color scheme, not sure if thats still the case though.
