Truck 1 from West Haven was this 1989 Pierce Lance 105' midmount ladder. I think, that not too many of these were built. Mark A.Redman photo - Juergen Kiefer collection.

This was actually the first mid-mount Pierce aerial made, came through with a Smeal ladder. WHFD specifies a mid stick due to the number of low railroad overpasses in the northern section of town.

I'll agree with the 1976 cab, but the trailer is I believe a 1957 model. Truck 1 was a 1956 Seagrave 100' tiller that saw service until 1984 when it was replaced by the 1984 Sutphen tower. Truck 2 was a 1957 Seagrave 100' tiller that had its cab replaced. As far as I know, these were to only 2 100' sticks in New Haven prior to 1960. Truck 3 and 5 were Seagrave 65' junior aerials, Truck 4 recieved a 100' Seagrave tiller when they purchased a 1960 model from Greenwich in the 1970's. As for Truck 6, I'm not sure on that one, will have to do some research on that.
Finally for New Haven, Engine 5 was this special unit. It is a 1987 Sutphen 65', that is equipped with a 1500 gpm-pump. It carries 600 gallons of water and 400 gallons of foam. Mark A.Redman photo - Juergen Kiefer collection.
Ladder 1 in Baltic once was this 1942 Seagrave 65' service aerial. Baltic was the third owner, it was originally built for New London and later saw service with the Cohanzie Fire Co. in Waterford. Mark A.Redman photo - Juergen Kiefer collection.
Ladder 1 in Beacon Falls once operated this 1952 Seagrave Anniversary 65' ladder. It was equipped with a 750 gpm-pump. Originally in service in Seymour/CT.
Finally, Ladder 1 from the Collinsville FD in the Town of Canton was this 1959 Seagrave KA 85' ladder with 1000 gpm-pump. Originally in service in West Chicago/IL. Mark A.Redman photo - Juergen Kiefer collection.

This truck is still in service as a front line engine. The foam capabilities were specified for the tank farms near the harbor and busy Interstate 95. The aerial was part of the specifications to "keep the taxpayers quiet". The truck covers the Annex and Morris Cove sections of New Haven, with the first due truck, Truck 3, coming from Fair Haven. Due the number of swing, lift and drawbridges T3 has to cross to reach these areas, the East Shore taxpayers complained that there would be an extensive delay for a ladder truck should one of the bridges be open, hence the aerial. The truck has never been used in the quint capacity, however the aerial is another arsenal in the chiefs toolbox, utilizing it in an elevated master stream capability. For those wondering, this rig actually replaced 2 rigs, a 1959 annivesrary series Seagrave pumper and a 1960 anniversary Seagrave foam engine.
