On October 20th, I took my wife to visit her sister in Fort Gratiot, MI for four days. This was my second trip to Michigan, having spent two days in the same area last year. The weather wasn't the best this time, with scattered rain on Friday and mostly cloudy conditions from Saturday through Monday morning, but I managed to hit 21 departments, adding 96 rigs to my collection.

My next stop was Flint. Budget cuts have reduced this department from eight stations a few years ago, to five, with one of those browned out each day. Another staffing cut looms in their future, likely reducing them to three stations. The only "real" truck company, a Grumman AerialCat, sat inside Station 1, broken down. There are two 75' quints, but one was at the browned out station the day I visited. Sad, very sad.

The Lapeer Fire Department covers over 100 square miles from one station. The Chief and Fire Marshall are fulltime, with the rest of the members being Paid-on-call, a common arrangement in Michigan.
