FDNY is going to get 2 new boats like this one...

One is to replace Marine 9 - THE FIREFIGHTER

and the other should replace Marine 1 - The McKean

Just a side note... One of the buildings directly behind the artist's concept is the high rise that Engine 4, Ladder 15, and Decon Unit is housed in.

Okay so it's more of a firebarge than boat and it's a demo of a 10k gpm monitor system but it's on the water and it's colorful. THis is May 25, 2007 over on the other side of Staten Island in Elizabeth NJ and Kidde is out there with National Foam doing a beautiful, bright sunshine, no clouds-bluesky, water flowing demo. NJ bought five of the outfits and will have them located one per county in and around the waterways of the state (or so they said back then.) They're about the cost of a quint.

Here's a pic of the pump container. That's a 12" discharge LDH.

Here's larger than I normally post. It's the diagram of how the pump works. There are two submersible, hydraulically driven pumps supplying water thru 8" hoses. All the auxiliary stuff - ventilating fans, hose reels, etc is hydraulically driven.

A more traditional scene. FDNY Big Squirt Gov Alfred E Smith, and a smaller, summertime only shallow draft vessel.

She went 'into service' and is responding to a fire further down the Arthur Kill (the body of water between Staten Island and NJ. And that name is of Dutch extraction.)

Previous Pic is Fireboat 11-6, not 11-5

This department is entirely made up of Fireboats. They own "NO" land-based firetrucks. They currently have 7 fireboats, 3 of which are ISO rated. They are in the process of designing and purchasing a brand new fireboat.[/quote]

Where is this fire department located and are they fairly accessible and do they cater to fire photographers? I'd love to shoot the entire department one day. Thanks for posting information on a unique department! Great posts. Mark

Here are some of my offerings on the subject from my trip to several Asian countries in 1998. They had been posted on the old list.

First several are fireboats of the Bankok, Thailand Fire Service.
