After listening to Detroit last year on the feed and hearing how busy they were I planned my next trip to the D. I arrived on July 3rd and stayed through the 6th. I caught twelve good working fires and missed many more. The first fire was on 5707 Chopin, we arrived with the first due companies to find two dwellings going.
Detroit 4th of July Trip

Ladder 22 arrived and had to stretch a ladder pipe because their prepiped waterway was broken.
Last one for Chopin.
Next Job was at 6396 Hazelet another dwelling going throughout. The interesting point of this fire was it took place in the middle of a block party complete with music and fireworks.
The officer of Engine 39 arrived, got off the rig, looked at the crowd and said,"let me guess, no one saw anything right?"
Stay tuned more to come....
Next up is another dwelling going throughout on 15810 Petoskey. This fire spread to the vacant next store.
Engine 42 dumpin' the monitor.
Ladder 17 has really become the workhorse of their fleet no that they are down to two towers.
Next up pictures from the Family Dollar Store two bagger...
Nice shots!

So we wake up from our all night tour and finish eating breakfast. We get on I-375 when they put out a box alarm for smoke coming from the Family Dollar Store, on Jos. Compau and E, McNichols. Chief 8 arrives and gives smoke showing. Google says we are about 5 minutes out and we can see it. We arrived as companies were just laying out and stretching lines. This is what we saw...
Trucks open up and the engine stretches.
The store was open and occupied when the fire was reported. Speaking to the manager he said that a few people walked in and started the fire in the paper and plastics isle.
It appeared that they had the fire knocked down then the color of the smoke changed rapidly as well as conditions.
Then it all went to hell and we would soon witness the fire which was the pinnacle of our tour as well as total destruction of the building.
Love this smoke. It looked so good against the blue sky.
Fire finds the doorway and wants out.
the picture is a little blurry, but I had to turn fast because the wall went down followed by this fireball.
My favorite picture. For the rest of some spectacular photos from this fire go to my sites.
