It was built for Washington Twp Fire Dept. In March of 1990, a pipe line that carried diesel fuel and spilled over 750,000 gals into the Allegheny River shutting down many water intakes including that of the Municipal Authority of the City of New Kensington. The public Safety Director for the county worked with the county 911 director to bring in tankers from Westmoreland, Allegheny, Indiana, Washington, Cambria, Fayette, Armstrong and Butler Counties to shuttle water into our reservoir and another tank to keep our system functional. Each tanker was logged to see how much water was hauled during the duration. This particular tanker hauled the most of all. The Tarentum Fire Dept pumped water from Bull Creek and relayed the water to its treatment plant having outside companies covering. One of them was our Engine 5, until our Engine No. 2 lost it's clutch.
