Phoenix Metropolitan Area Fire Apparatus
Quote:Here is Avondale's new utility, from KME's website. Probably be the last time that rig sees any snow!

Nice looking rig. But, I'm not crazy about the "Fire & Medical" moniker that some Departments (I.e. Mesa) are going to, even if it is accurate...

Quote:In Metro Phoenix, a Utility is a light and air unit, some also have some site rehab resources built in also if the department doesn't have a dedicated and/or staffed rehab unit. In a nutshell, the majority of the fire departments, large and small in Maricopa County participate in an automatic mutual aid consortium. Essentially, the City of Phoenix provides regional 9-1-1 services for 20+ FD's in the valley and units respond and work together regardless of the lines on the map or the color of the fire trucks. Where I live, it would very likely to have units from Chandler, Mesa and Gilbert among others responding for a structure fire. As part of the consortium, all of the signatory fire departments operate under the same tactical procedures.

That's a better answer than mine. Sorry about stepping on top of yours.

Speaking of Air and Light Units, I spotted this beefy Kenworth with Pierce body work utility from the Gilbert (AZ) Fire Department. No other information available.

One of four rigs bought in 1990 with 90' LTI aerials and Spartan Baron tractors. All refurbished with new (much shorter) ALF Eagle tractors in 1999/2000. All have gone into reserve (not sure how many of the four are left - I have seen at least two of them).
