My immediate first thought on this rig was that it looks like the Charlie Brown Christmas Tree of Fire Engines. Poor thing.

March 29, 1921 the NJ State Police were founded. I did some playing around a while back making some to the NJ-TF 1 (USAR) units and started doing other vehicles of the NJSP (Never really served - but might look neat with the TRIANGLE on the side.

About 1975 the NJSP stopped using Black and Whites. The ones that were black and white had just a triangle logo on the door. A Tactical Patrol (AKA the TAC PACK) had the blue and yellow stripes added as the doors look to day. I did a version of the NJSP going BACK to Black and white...

The NJSP does not have a "SWAT TEAM"... its called the T.E.A.M.S. (Techincal Emergency And Mission Specialists) Unit. They started as an Underwater Recovery Unit and went on in 1975 to deal with High Risk Warrents and other SWAT like duties. Today members also help staff parts of OEM and the USAR Team (NJ-TF 1). They have a few Tactical Vehicles this was a spin on some...

Been working on this for a bit. Finally got it finished tonight. This is a 1980's GMC TopKick/E-One used but the NJSP TEAMS unit. It covers the northern NJ - TROOP B - and is based at Netcong Station on Rt 206. The Diver's Helmet is used since when the Unit was started most members came over from the Underwater Recovery Unit. It was the ONLY unit with a special patch for some time in the NJSP.

The USAR Team for NJ falls under OEM and that is under the NJSP. I beleive it was 2004 money was received for the UASI for a "Metro USAR Strike Team". This meant that 12 Counties in the north part of NJ and the NJSP would get custom rescue trucks for responses. The NJSP unit (TRUCK 5) would be an All Wheel Version of the same spec truck. All Fire Departments that a truck was given to, could use the rig as needed BUT had to provide it in the event the Strike Team was needed. This is very much like the old Civil Defence Trucks of the 1950s, in concept of operations. In 2011 a 14th Truck was added to Middlesex County of same spec. Each Fire Department also had finial say in the color of the truck assigned to them.

From the RESCUE 1 website:

A Spartan Advantage Chassis supports each 22'4" Walk Around Heavy Rescue

Body. The 330 HP Cummins ISC engine and Allison 3000 transmission provide

power to the 35 KW Onan PTO generators. Robinson roll up doors offer clear

access to the exterior compartments designed for the specialized equipment

to be used by the Task Force/USAR.

** NJ's USAR is fully operational equal to a FEAM USAR TEAM. I was told that the State chose NOT to be a part of the FEAM TEAMS, leaving total control in the Governer's hands.
