This is similar to Torrance's 1954 model that is now in the L.A. County Fire Museum. I was told that the compartment below the driver's door was made by Torrance FF's. They cut out the panel (there was nothing behind it), made a compartment out of it and put a short length of LDH in there. Both rigs have that feature. Pretty clever.
