The Pierce factory..........
Mechanical engineers build weapons, whereas civil engineers build targets.

When the man at the door said," Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms", I, naturally assumed it was a delivery!

I heard that there might be another one under construction at the factory.

Sorry that I didn't get a pic of new truck, but here at least is the new tractor of Ladder 9's 2010 Pierce Tandem Axial TDA.

Seattle Fire Dept Shop number 30940

Pierce job 22751.

See POST 139 for corrections I have made, and some new info about the fate of Ladder 9's former rig.

Very nice looking. It has some good flavor. Wish SFD would return to REAL Federal Q Sirens. The old KW looked cool with the Q on the Fender.

SFD Engine 36 finally went into service on April 10th, after almost three months of evaluation at the training center. This rig replaced a 1995 E\-One Protector.

SFD E26 also went into service last week, April 13th, and replaced a 1996 E\-One Protector. All 1995 and 96 E\-One Protectors are now either reserve rigs or assigned to the Joint Training Facility. The only exception is apparatus 955407, former E28, which had been impounded by the Seattle Attorney's Office as evidence related to a 2010 multiple fatality fire. Other new rigs for 2011, the MAB, and L12, I haven't had an opportunity to shoot yet.

Another new unit, AIR 9, added in 2011 was this 2011 Ford F-450, with a rebuilt air cylinder compartment body, which was removed from retired APP #993759, and refurbished by J&D Hydraulics of Auburn, WA.
Inquiring minds want to know, was the engine at fault for the fire fatalities? What was the reason for impunding??
Hey, thanks for the interest.

Reserve E81, a 1996 E\-One Protector, the second due engine, was being used as a spare that day by E18, upon arrival, could not switch over to pump. The first due engine was unavailable, already dispatched on an aid run to assist a fallen patient at a nursing home. The third due was delayed in responding somewhat, because of equipment falling off the rig. With all that happened, the City's legal team decided it would be wise to secure the engine.

Bob, a couple questions from Gig Harbor. How come they've switched to Typhoons? $? And do you know if the new E6/L3 station will be built to fit a TDA? It's interesting that after all these years of TDAs only in the downtown area they're now bringing them department wide. It's sort of ironic that L6's station may end up being the only one not capable of housing a TDA when they arguably need it the most.
