I haven't shot it yet, but the SO here just bought a Lenco B.E.A.R. on a Freightliner chassis. Here's Lenco's website: http://www.armoredtrucks.com/

Scottsdale, Az Police SWAT armored vehicle. Sorry no info. The detective that let me photograph it wasn't too happy with me doing it.

Most of the units like this were at one time a "Light Armor Personnel Carrier" of the US Air Force Security Police called a "Peace Keeper". The "PK's" were mostly built in the 70's that I encountered and were on a Dodge chassis. These were used mostly for flight line, missle fields, and base security protection. The MAIN Weapon that was mounted behind the sheild was an M-60 Machine Gun. The vehicle was being replaced by the Hum-vees carrying different crews and weapons like M-2 .50 Cal Machine Guns, Mk-19 40mm granade machine guns and other "toys".

Most of these PK's were "simple" units and got moved around with little to tell you where they servered unless you get your hands on the paperwork. If memeory serves me right we had MAFB for McGuire AFB on the bumpers front and rear. Only issue is this could also mean any other base that started with an "M". Also I think we had 2 or 3 at McGuire while I was there from 92-99. Hope this helps everyone with some Identificaation of the units being made over for Civilian use.

Greenbelt Maryland (Prince Georges County) Police Rescue vehicle. I don't have a clue what it is as I am not up to speed on these beasts but I am sure someone here can fill in the details.

Washington DC, March 2006
That's a Cadillac Gage V100 or V150 Commando, originally built for the Army MPs and Air Force Security Police in the Vietnam era. A lot of PDs had them at one time and some (like Greenbelt) still do. Sort of the "first wave" of military surplus armored vehicles that were widely distributed to law enforcement after the military phased them out. The "second wave" was the Peacekeeper that proliferated all over the country, now being replace in many cases by the Lenco series.

Sorry for the size of the last photo - that was my first posting on this board. Usually my photos are less than 200kb, should have checked before I posted it!

Does anybody have a shot of DC's MPD armored Lenco vehicle? It has a huge "contraption" on the top. Looks very top-heavy.
