I'm not positive, but I would think AE made it standard practice around 89-90.  I don't see an FD spending the money for the change, especially when they already had older C- Series rigs with the round ones.  I have also seen this done by E\-One.

Terrible lighting on this one, but Kennedyville, MD Eng 46 is/was a 1988 Spartan/American Eagle 1500/1000.
