Dan returned to Georgia again in May for his granddaughter's graduation. We made one trip, but it was a long one! Dan wanted photos of a KME that he missed at the factory.

This past Wednesday, I headed to south Georgia, in an attempt to locate and photograph an old PemFab/Grumman pumper from Hughesville, MD that was supposed to be in Nashville, GA. Unfortunately, after conversations with members of three different FD's in the area, it isn't there, nor has it ever been there. Bummer! The guy at Nashville, a City employee/FF, stated that he was "too busy" to pull their six rigs out for me to photograph. In the twenty minutes we talked, we could have done all six! They run three pumpers, including a very well-preserved Ford C/Pirsch, along with an F-550 rescue and two Knockers. Bummer again!
I next went to Ray City, about ten miles further south. They operate from two adjoining buildings, one with three rigs and a singe rig in the other. There was no one around and both buildings had "anti-buff" doors. The PD was just across the street, so I headed that way, only to spot two of their members talking in the parking lot. Minutes later, I was shooting these. Engine 61, Ray City, GA 2011 Freightliner M2/Pierce Responder 1250/1000 #24241
They also have this GA Forestry knocker that was transferred to a newer chassis that was obtained from the Florida D.O.T.

The guys at Ray City told me about the next FD, located about ten miles north of Nashville, in the small town of Alapaha. They said that Alapaha had a "bunch of trucks". Crammed into one building are eight pieces, five that were donated to them from New Jersey and still lettered for their former FD's. A Ford C/Hahn and a Ford F/Cherefko, both from East Freehold, along with a Duplex/TASC from Whitesville, all had dead batteries. A Hahn from Jackson Mills fired right up, but would not budge. The brakes were frozen. The driver immediately called the mechanic. This is their front line engine! The only x-Jersey rig that I was able to shoot was also a former Whitesville rig.

Heading back north, I stopped at a Houston County (pronounced House-ton) station.

My last stop for the day was at Macon-Bibb County Station 7, to get directions to Station 12. Engine 12 was sitting on their ramp, so all I had to do was get them to turn it around.

The guys at Macon had told me about a few more rigs that I didn't know about, plus I had missed a stop the day before due to increasing clouds, plus I wanted to hit more Houston County stations (they recently added paid staff during the day). I headed south again.
