A few weekends ago, I was blessed enough to shoot 45 trucks in one day. The day started off at Qualla FD Station 1 to get their new engine. While I was there, I went ahead and got better pics of the rest of their fleet in front of their new station.

From what I was told while I was there, this truck is going to undergo a major refurb sometime in the near future. Not really sure what the refurb entails, but I'll be sure to post a photo once it's done.

After leaving Qualla, we travelled to Bryson City, NC. Bryson City's station is right against the street, with only a short concrete apron. I never thought I would ever convince anyone to move their trucks around for me. Luckily, I was greeted by a nice man who moved every truck over to a small parking lot across the street so I could take photos of them.

This was, by far, the coolest rig that Bryson City had tucked away in their station. I'd wanted a picture of this one ever since Micah and I stopped by their station back in the mid 2000's to shoot their rigs, only to take pics inside their station.

This rig was lacking a back compartment door due to the door coming open while pulling out of the bay a few weeks earlier. The man moving the trucks around for us joked and said that it was done for easier access to the flashlights!

Andrew,

Yep one of six ordered in 1992. They were the first red squads, first freightliners, and the last squads used by KCFD. They were Northland Squad 16,38. Downtown-east side Squad 10,27. SouthKC Squad 41,28. Looks great Squad 10 was always super busy in the Downtown eastside Getto with Pumper 10, Truck 3, Deputy Car 101. It ran all of the primary EMS runs at Tens. At that time Squad 10 also cross staffed Air 1 and the Command Bus that were housed at Tens for all second alarm fires. Thanks for posting great photos.

This was the last rig we shot at Bryson City. Also inside their station was a 1940 Dodge/ALF engine (which still runs, but they couldn't get it out for pics that day...unfortunately!!!) and a 1985 Grumman-Olson/Kurbmaster panel van that they use as a service & air truck which couldn't be pulled out because it wouldn't start. Getting pics at Bryson City was a huge excitement for me, because I never dreamed I'd get to shoot their trucks due to the small apron and not many parking lots close.

A phone call later, we were on our way to Alarka, NC. Micah and I shot their fleet years ago, but they'd had some updates to the fleet since then. While I was there, I took advantage of the opportunity of sunlight and re-shot their entire fleet.

This first truck was a re-mount from a truck we'd shot last time. The original truck was a 1994 Dodge Ram 250/Stahl that Alarka got from the Atlanta Gas company in Georgia. The truck was white with a red stripe. They remounted the 1994 body onto a new 2012 Ford F-350. The body was then painted red to match the truck.

This was also an upfit of a rig we shot last time. The skid unit in the bed of this brush truck came out of a 1990 Ford F-250 formerly operated by the NC Forest Service that Alarka had been operating as their brush truck. When they took the skid unit out of the 1990 Ford F-250, they turned it into a utility truck.

This was the last new addition to Alarka that we hadn't previously shot. This replaced a 1977 Dodge 300/Sanford mini-bumper pumper that Alarka sold to the next fire district over, the West Swain VFD. Stay tuned for pics of that truck in its new home. They said this truck came from Manchester, MD. Does anyone have pics of it in its former home?

This truck has always been so awesome to me. If only it's sister engine (equipped with a 55' TeleSqurt) could be parked in the bay beside it...

This truck holds a very special place in my heart. I grew up playing hide and seek around this truck during the fire department suppers. The fire department I am a member of sold this truck to Alarka sometime in the mid 1990's. I always loved this truck and would love to someday own it when Alarka retires it. The Chief at Alarka told me that the members there love the truck as much as we all did, and still run it first out on calls regularly. He said the truck still pumped great. It always makes me smile to go see this engine!

Last one for tonight...

And lastly from Alarka is this rig that I mentioned earlier. This truck served as 1660 last time we were there and carried the small skid unit in the bed that is now in the new 1660. When they removed the skid unit from this truck, it was still a good truck, so they turned it into a utility truck.

Stay tuned for photos from West Swain VFD and many more...
