R1's Captain Terry Hatton (EOW 9/11/01) was known for his saying that "Anything less than Outstanding is Unacceptable" ... the word "Outstanding" has been featured on the front of each of the past R1 rigs.

I've heard the same from Indianapolis, sounds like the trucks ride like tanks, which would be a minor worry compared to things that COULD go wrong with the truck.

The real question is is the rig itself garbage or are the specs garbage? A rig is only as good as the specs are. Not trying to discount your concerns, Lord knows everybody up here HATED the 4 Pierce rearmounts we bought about 10yrs ago, but it is important to consider both positions.

Well, having worked for Seagrave for a short time until about 4 years ago, I can tell you that Ferrara is in for a very severe lesson with the FDNY. The FDNY stipulates a pretty intense 5-year "bumper to bumper" warranty on new apparatus. Ferrrara cut their teeth in NYC by delivering units that, in reality, are not used anywhere near as hard as first-line units (i.e. Satellite units, HazMat, SOC units, etc), and may be a bit over confident with their build quality. They are now taking the true test and one of two things will happen: 1) they will lose their ass on warranty expenditures and be forced to address any unforeseen shortcomings in their engineering and/or production (thereby increasing quality on future delivered product); or 2) they will choose not to bid in the future, and if they do, the pricing will be commensurate with the expense incurred to build a tougher product. Either way, they have 20 of them now, and just signed two more add-on contracts. I'm not here to endorse Seagrave for sure, as I have no financial reason to do so, but I can tell you without hesitation that while they are not the prettiest, don't have the gadgets and doo-dads, and are priced higher, they DO build a truck that can take one hell of a beating and keep asking for more. The Ferraras are not going away anytime soon, so the ride could be interesting! If KME gets in the door on the pumpers, the ride will progress to being WILD!
