Not sure there's an LA County Ward here. Not Engine 51, but the one that protected the area around my house growing up.

The first shot is most likely from the Freeport Memorial Day parade (year unknown) but that's probably somewhere along Merrick Road near Park Avenue, Freeport.



The second was taken in Parking Field No. 11 on Church Street, right across from the quarters of Excelsior Hook & Ladder Co. No. 1.



By the way the blue Ward LaFrance pumper shown in a couple of other posts in this thread - Unit 212 - of Hose Co. No. 2 was originally lime yellow, just like this rig. Not sure when it was repainted blue, but I would guess it was the late 1980's or early 1990's. I know somebody else mentioned it being refurbished in '93, but it may have been repainted blue prior to that.[/quote]

The story I was always told, was that the blue WLF and Excelsior's 81 ALF tiller were involved in a wreck together in the late 80's and that's why they were both refurbed by RD Murray. I could be wrong, but that is the story I was told be FF's in Freeport.

I don't suppose it would be possible to get a shot of the door emblem??? I'm curious which Co. in East Hampton it served, and there might be a clue on the door, unless the emblem is from the last dept it serves.

Is there a story as to why this rig has the Liberty Bell on the door insteaed of the county seal? LA County is a long way from Philadelphia.

I believe this was the prototype for the new style cab that was eventually used by both WLF and Maxim. The teardrop window was taller than the one on later versions.



If anyone (Mr. Anderson, are you listening?) has any more info, such as pump & tank sizes and Spec Numbers, on the rigs Frank posted, I'd appreciate you passing that info on to me. Thanks!

GA Dave, I don't have any info on any of Frank B's trucks he posted. Do you by any chance have any #'s on Orlando FD's WLF's by any chance let me know.

Orlando FD didn't get all of those rigs. Three of them went to Reedy Creek and one of the P-82's went to another nearby FD.



Everyone-

I really appreciate all the help with these rigs. The more I learn about them, the more I realize how little I know. Remember, the newest Ultravision is over 25 years old! They're getting really hard to track down. I have learned that there were five different series of spec numbers used for the Ultravision cab:



Model 75

Model 80

Model 85

Model 87

2100 Series



So far, I have found only one Model 75 (75-03). Near as I can figure, the Model 75 was a GM powered pumper that had the motor housing that did not extend past the canopy cab, leaving a walkway between the cab and body.

The Model 80 was the most common by far. Numbers go from 80-00 to 80-1706, but there are many numbers that were not used. The Model 80 had a longer motor housing that extended out from under the canopy all the way to the body. The Model 80 was available in open cab, canopy cab, sedan cab and low-profile versions.

The Model 85 had the motor located between the driver and officer seats, with a full bench seat under the canopy. As far as I know, all Model 85's had canopy cabs. Numbers run from 85-00 to 85-53, but again, there are numbers that weren't used.

The Model 87, appears to have all been built by Maxim, using the Ultravision cab. The configuration is the same as the Model 80. Numbers start at 87-1001, the highest I've found is 87-1057. Again, there are gaps in the numbers.

That brings us to the 2100 Series, produced between 1978 and 1980. Same as the Model 80, I'm not sure why they were numbered differently. So far, I have only discovered 8 of them, but the numbers range from 2102 to 2172. I have one theory about these. At one time, WLF operated a facility in Geneva, NY. It's possible that the 2100 Series rigs were built there.

Again, I thank everyone who has posted pics and info. I hope it continues.
