I'm not sure if there's anybody else up in Seattle that can get a shot of it, but if those 2 KWs are going away, it's the end of a very long run for Kenworth with SFD. I'm pretty sure the hose wagons are the last KW rigs operated by SFD.
2. I saw a new Tacoma FD engine that looked like it was being delivered last week. It appeared to be a Spartan/Darley. What was unusual about it was that it had a massively extended and raised rear cab. I googled and found that apparently it is transport capable. For a VERY traditional department like Tacoma, this is pretty surprising. I guess it's going to Engine 3 in NE Tacoma eventually, so keep your eyes out.

I don't know what companies that this group of three in the above specs was assigned to, but E1, 4, 8, 10, and 15 all operate similar if not identical apparatus.
That's not the one that I saw. That's the Velocity demo they bought a couple years back. The soon to be Engine 3 I saw was a Spartan/Darley. It had the same rear body as all the other recent Darley rigs with the only difference being a huge cab. If I'm ever in NE Tacoma and get a shot of it, I'll post it here.

I work in downtown Tacoma so I see 1 and 4 running around in their rigs all the time, as both companies run the wheels off of their engines. I believe all of the 1996 rigs they replaced had over 175,000 miles on them. At least one had over 200,000 miles.
Then the second batch of 2 went to 8 and 15. 3 will get the transport engine. 6 got a Roadrunner, Rosenbauer's version of the telesqurt. 2 more Roadrunners are on order, which will likely go to 11 and 13 (which currently operate late 90's telesqurt-type engines). I also remember reading on H&W's Facebook page that Tacoma had placed an order for a Spartan ERV engine. Not sure what the status of that is with the city's current major budget problems.

I saw a wide variety of fire apparatus including some new engines. Here is a 2012 Spartan/Rosenbauer engine from Valley Regional Fire Authority. This is one of two recently acquired by the VRFA. I don't think I'm nuts on this, but I'm pretty sure a very good "tell" on which division of Rosenbauer built a rig is the large red R high on the cab. If this is present, my understanding is that the General division built the body. If this isn't present, and often times there's Rosenbauer (full length name) logo on the rear compartment doors, Central States built it. Maybe everyone already knew this, maybe not. Anyone else notice this?
