Nope! No idea what they were thinking, but it makes for an interesting photo.

Anyone know how many of these rigs were built? I know of 9, but I haven't started digging yet.

As you can see in these photos, an addition is being constructed at the Carolina Trace station.

Do you by chance know how/why that hose has loops wrapped back into it?

My immediate first thought on this rig was that it looks like the Charlie Brown Christmas Tree of Fire Engines. Poor thing.

None of those FD's are IN Sanford, but they all have Sanford addresses. Sanford has a career FD with three stations. These other FD's are located in a circle around the city in Lee County, except Benhaven, which is in the next county to the south. There are two more that I will post tomorrow. One has a Sanford address, one doesn't.

To my eye, it just looks like that department likes long pull-loops. They're folded back towards the tray and held in place by some sort of restraining device ie- seat belt strap. Also, this setup would definitely keep the hose load from sliding out of the speed lay while driving as well.

Dave,

I had a friend in college that was on Lemon Springs and he told me about an older gentleman that kept an old Mack engine and another antique in a shed behind Lemon Springs station at one time. Did the guys at Lemon Spring mention anything about this?
