Ward LaFrance Ultravision
KFDI3- Mobile's 1969 WLF 1000/350 was assigned to Engine 9 by 1974 and the serial # was 80-340. Sorry I don't know what happened to it.

Anyone have shots of Philly's Wards from the early 70's?

I looked through the thread hoping to see Stony Brook NY's twin WLF Ambassadors(?). They replaced them in the early 90's with twin KMEs. I don't know what became of the WLFs, buth they were on of the few WLFs in that area. If anyone has pics of them I'd love to see them.

These are just what I can see that are different....

The chrome on the front and high side compartments (Philly did not have either of these), also the cab is slightly different at the jump seat area, Philly's is the same all around - no angles. The PFD recieved one squrt - the squrt is white.



There was an order of 7 rigs (Ward Spec #'s 80-716 to 80-722) The regular engines had the chrome "belt" stripes around but lacked that extra chrome by the flashers, turn signals, and Q. Also the PFD order might have all been STROBE lights on the roof. Squrt 8 had to strobe lights on the roof.

The rig in this photo is definitely not the one that was delivered to Philadelphia. There are a number of differences between the apparatus in the photo and the one that served the PFD. Among the differences are the squrt boom, the pump panel, and the lettering on the side of the cab. The boom on the Philly rig was much thicker and it was painted white.

That is from Evansville IN. They had at least 2 maybe 3 of those from 1970. I'll have pic to post this weekend.

The delivery list I have shows three rigs delivered in 1970. At least one was equipped with a Squrt. The Spec Numbers were 80-444, 80-445 and 80-446.

This 1965 WLF/HiRanger 75ft snorkel served the City of Groton CT before being sold to Electric Boat in 1987. They are a defense contractor located in Groton.

I believe this was replaced around 1994, by a Spartan RD murray stainless steel pumper painted all white with orange striping. I remember seeing the ward for sale by Northeast fire Apparatus about that time.

Ansonia, CT Engine 1 was replaced in 2001 with a Ferrara Inferno 1250 / 750 / 20A / 40B pumper. The old Ward was sold to a fire department in New Hampshire, I don't know the name but I do know that the truck is now red. Though I'm from AFD Co. 4 (same side of town as E-1) I rode this truck a few times and it was repowered around 1995 due to an engine problem. She was a good truck especially with the small wheel base for the tight streets of Ansonia's westside. I took my apparatus drivers test on this rig.
