3-Alarm School Fire in Vancouver, WA 2-3-13
#1
At 03:14 Vancouver dispatch received an automatic alarm from the Crestline Elementary School at 13003 SE 7th St. and they dispatched the first due engine. While enroute, a neighbor reported seeing smoke so it was upgraded to a full box assignment. On arrival the engine observed a fire in the southeast corner of the attic. A short time later a portion of the facade collapsed.

The first due truck made a trench cut on the roof, but the fire had advanced beyond them. Fearing a roof collapse, they withdrew from the roof. Some time later the roof did collapse.

At 04:15 Portland Truck 2 was dispatched to the fire. I listened for about an hour before deciding to go, although I didn't expect to see much.

I was mistaken.

Wow, great shots!  Glad it didn't happen during a time when the building was occupied.

The classrooms were clear of smoke long after the apparatus arrived so no one would have been in danger.

And the backdrafts occurred more than 3 hours after the first alarm.
