I BELIEVE SO BUT I CAN'T REMEMBER FOR SURE.

Quote:Last I had heard, they were still in service.  I think there is only about 10 or 12 people in the boro.  within the last year or two there was a, I think, Federal "judgement" enforcing the sellout/moveout order from back in the 70's.  I would have to guess that at some point in the next couple years, Centralia will be a Boro with only streets and vegetation.
Darin, remember when we "rode" by in 2008, the 1985 IH S/Kovatch engine and an ambulance were still there. The municipal building/fire station was actually built with Fed money in 1977, will it take Fed dollars to knock it down? In the last several years, a couple of new books have been published, since the 50th anniversary of the mine fire starting was last year.

Doc, Daren, and Dave,

I rode by last year (after the 6 County in Mt. Carmel), the ambulance was gone, the International was there, and the building looked like it was "abandoned."  I would love to photograph it, but I think you would have better luck at some military bases and nuclear power plants than getting one older International/KME in Centralia...

I remember hearing that the EMS services where not there and I think Mount Carmel covers it.  I think the engine might even be run by Aristas, on the mountain just above them.

one other interesting thing about centralia's station when you ring the doorbell it activates the station's siren i'm sure pat sr remembers that day when we stopped there.

Yes I remember that day. And even with the building siren blowing no one showed up.
