While New Haven firefighters were busy battling a second alarm on the city's east side, box 901 was transmitted for a reported bedroom fire. First due companies found a well advanced bedroom fire in an occupied multiple dwelling. Firefighters had to contend with evacuating the occupants as well as the fire attack. A second alarm was transmitted due to reports from truck companies of fire extension into the attic. Firefighters mounted an aggressive interior attack for about an hour to bring the fire under control. Forty residents were displaced by the fire. The fire is believed to have been caused by a space heater.
