Yeah that is what I was asking, if whether they would be the ladder "platforms" rather than the scopes that they run now. Sorry for the confusion, I just refer to the platforms as tower ladders and scopes as scopes.
I have a question about the Aerialscope, because we only have 2 here in Kentucky that are in service, which one is an old FDNY rig anyway. Is the aerialscope easier and quicker to set up than conventional mid-mount towers, or what's the reason behind them? With the types of jacks they have, the rigs seem like they're easier to set up on the fireground.

FDNY cabs have been fixed cabs in the past. The J Series Cab and the Commander II chassis have been the choice in the past. The Marauder and the Marauder II are available in split tilt and full tilt options which will be a big change in FDNY. As for the new Marauder II chassis it has a few major changes. The standard cab is 8 inches longer and two inches wider than the original. The windows on the doors are bigger as well as bigger doors allowing for easier access to the cab. The new Marauder II also will house the 2007 emissions engines which are all bigger and require more air flow for engine cooling. That is why the grille is so much bigger. The interior has changed as well allowing for some additional leg room. These are just some of the changes.

- From my experience, Yes they are ! We have had 3 Aerialscopes (down to 1-spare) and switched to ALF MM Towers- the Scopes were pretty simple- pull up and the Chaueffer drops the jacks, and you're off !! The new towers have so many bells, lites , warnings, and whistles and now 2-men set it up <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

(This is what I'd do back in 1957 and in college - I'd get a DSNY snowplow and plow between the hours of 6PM and 6AM. I was paid the magnificent sum of $20.05 for the twelve hours! But back then beer was a nickle a glass. And in many places you could get a free sandwich with it.)

We carry shovels on all of our rigs. If we see any hydrant covered by snow we dig it out. Or if Sanitation is nearby with a plow (such as with these lucky Brothers) you have them plow it out.

NYC Sanitation takes care of snow removal here in NYC. Sanitation guys are all mostly good guys who usually go out of their way for us. Whether it be coming by and plowing off the apron of the firehouse, or taking some large garbage from the firehouse, they usually do the right thing. And ALOT of them also have family on the FDNY.

The home owners with hydrants in front of their houses are supposed to keep the area clear, however many homes owners don't want to do the extra work. And as crossbronx stated we do have shovels on our rigs, and we also will go out after major snowstorms and dig them out. The city will not pay off duty guys to do this so it is up to the on duty guys.
