The former FDNY Tower Ladder that Angola, Indiana is now running is the same rig that took Firemen Jim McManus and George Rice (L-153 FDNY) to their deaths at the Waldbaums Supermarket fire on Ocean Avenue in Brooklyn, NY on August 2nd 1978.

Also killed that day were: Lt. James Cutillo Batt. 33, FF Harold Hastings Batt. 42, FF Charles Bouton L-156, and Prob. FF William O'Connoer L-156

Additional info:

1987 Mack CF-600/Grumman Fire Cat 1000/750 delivered new with 4-door cab enclosure to Fairless Hills FC-Falls Twp. (Bucks Co.),PA. In the 1950s the U.S.Steel Corp. built a large open hearth steel mill, known as The Fairless Works, in the area of this company. It became a principal employer. The fire company was a loyal Mack customer therefore this CF was purchased late in Mack's production and Grumman mounted the body. In late 2004 it was sold through Firetec to East River FC-St.Andrew's, PEI, Canada.

I don't think Manchester FD ever had an Aerialscope, but the 8th Utilities Fire District did and just recently replaced the rig with an E\-One tower. The last I knew the Mack was not sold yet. If I find out anything I'll let you know.

Here are some older Macks from my hometown of Fanwood NJ. First a 1937 Mack 'Quad' 1000/500, now privately owned and under a long term restoration.

The next town, which surrounded Fanwood on thre sides was Scotch Plains NJ. They had Macks from the 30's when I was a young boy, pre-buffing, sorry I don't have photos of them. Here are a few that I do have. First a 1959 Mack 750/500, now privately owned.
