Virtual Fire Buffing in Chicago

Chicago has always been one of my favorite cities to buff. In September of 1970 Duane Troxel and I visited Chicago to shoot the entire department. On the first Saturday in the Windy City we met up with fellow buff Chuck Bleck at the motel we were staying at on N. La Salle. Shortly after Chuck met us, the CFD struck a Still & Box in 1200 block of N. Clybourn. We jumped into Duane's car in a light rain and drove the fairly short distance to the fire scene. Here are Duane (left) and Chuck (right) running ahead of me into the fire scene. I believe it was a 2-11 about this time. It would go to a 3-11. - Photo by Steve Skaar [/quote] Looked up this fire in the database: Setptember 6 1970 3-11 alarm 1276 Clybourn

Here's some more shots from the fire on Halsted....This truckman had been venting some windows til the fire blew out the front you can see an engine dropping a 3 inch line in the far right of the image
taken from inside the cab of truck 51...snorkel 3 was almost brand new at this time
some fire showing in the front...big line working....Mack pumper dropping 2 lines..I love busy overall scene shots like this one
at the time this photo was taken my dad was heading to use the radio in the cab of truck 51 to pull a 2-11
this was a typical englewood area fire in the 70s.....I still remember this fire like it was yesterday!!!!!

Let's get this old topic up and moving!! A rare shot of the old, pre rebuild smoke ejector working..Can't remember where this was but it was the early 80's
Chinese restaurant fire....location eludes me..1980s..setting up a ladder pipe
Nice pic love the old pic of the truck in all the fire.
Great photo's Steve. I remember the Mack Platt rig that was running with Squad 2. They had received the Mack Platt rig a l while after the had begun running as a 2 piece Squad/Snorkel. When Squad 2 went in service as a 2 piece Squad on September 19 1983 they initially were using a 1979 Ford 3 D metals Squad and was put in service at Engine 106's quarters however when they were relocated to Engine 91 almost a year and a half later they were using the Mack Platt rig.
Here's another oldie..I wanna say it was around 63rd and state in the 80s...
