Desert Southwest Fire and EMS Expo 2013 - Glendale, AZ
#1
As part of the annual Desert Southwest Fire and EMS Leadership Conference, sponsored by the Arizona Fire Chiefs' Association, there is a one-day expo held at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, home of the Arizona Cardinals.

The Conference attracts fire service leaders from all over Arizona (I didn't bother to try and photograph all the staff/command vehicles present) to the week-long conference and education seminars.

This is my second year attending the expo and found some changes from last year, most notably, a distinct absence of a certain manufacturer (actually two - Seagrave didn't bother to attend, either) that starts with a P and just celebrated 100 years (that may be why they weren't there).

So, I'm going to post the photos as I get time.

First up, I thought this was the coolest rig at the show - I'm not really an E\-One fan, but this rig was great.  2013 E\-One Typhoon eMax pumper.  1500/150gpm with pump & roll/780gwt/30a, bumper turret, rescue compartments, etc...

I'm still trying to figure out the winch-in-a-drawer option on the EVI rescue...  I'm sure there's a logical answer, but I couldn't figure it out.  The winch is bolted into the drawer, but the sides don't drop down or anything.  Any thoughts?

Rosenbauer brought Peoria, Arizona's new Engine 199 to show off.  It's a 2013 Freightliner/Rosenbauer (MN) 4x4 interface pumper.  It meets the NFPA specs for types I, II and III, so they're calling it a "Type I-II-III".

It's 1000gpm/500gwt with foam and CAFS, if I recall.  It will be stationed at FS199 at Lake Pleasant Regional Park, in the far north part of the City.  I'm going to get better photos before it goes into service, but here's a look for now.

That's probably it.  I didn't try very hard to see "how" it was in there, just that it wouldn't move.

Just for variety, here's one of the visitors to the show that I hadn't shot before.  A good catch out on the street.

Avondale has placed an order with KME for a new Utility 172. Here is a link to the specs from the Avondale website if anyone cares to look at them.

This was my second favorite rig of the show - Pinetop, AZ Tanker - Just something about solid red with red wheels appeals to me.

2013 Kenworth/TWI (Truck Works, Inc..., a local Phoenix builder).  S/N 7335.

2,000gwt - I'm not sure of the pump size; I think it only has a PTO pump for the front turret, rear and side sweeps, plus a couple of discharges.  It's says it's self-loading, but not vacuum, by the looks of it.
