After driving and hiking two days in the Yellowstone Park, we went south to the Grand Teton NP and to Jackson Hole/Wyoming. As we arrived in Jackson Hole, the whole valley was filled with smoke, a result of a large brush-fire (Horsethief Canyon Fire). Fire crews from Wyoming,Montana, Idaho, Utah, and Nevada were on scene, along with the BLM, USFS and private contractors.
I had to cancel my original plans to visit the Jackson Hole and Teton Village Fire Departments, as both departments were totally involved in the brush-fire. So I went to the Jackson Hole International Airport. The crew from the Fire Department was extremely nice and pulled the trucks out.
Crash 1 is this 1988 Oshkosh DA-1500 8x8 with Rosenbauer Viper bodywork. 750 gpm/1500 water/ 265 foam/ 500 # dry chem. Due to be replaced in 2014.
For me, Crash 3 was the most interesting AFFR-truck at the airport. It is a 1995 Peterbilt 357 6x6 with Darley bodywork. It has a 1250 gpm-pump and carries 2800 gallons of water, 60 gallons of foam, and a 60' Snozzle.
On the premises of our hotel in Jackson Hole I shot this brush-truck. It is a 2009 GMC C 5500 4x4 with locally built bodywork. 250gpm/400 water/25 foam. The truck is owned by Wildfire Defense Systems from Bozeman/MT.
On our way to the Salt Lake City area I shot this photo of opportunity. Tanker 2 in Garden City/Utah was or still is this 1970 Peterbilt with Gary Tank trailer from 1960. It has a 5000 gallon-tank.
