Firefighters arrived at 9300 Piney Branch Rd in Silver Spring and encountered heavy fire coming from a terrace level apartment with fire extending to the upper floors of the four-story garden style apartment building with several people trapped on their balconies calling for help.

As one team of firefighters entered, the building to make an attack on the fire several other firefighters used ground ladders to rescue several residents from their second and third floor balconies.
With the fire extending to the upper floors and the possibility of the fire extending into another building a second alarm was quickly transmitted. At one point firefighters were ordered out of the building due to the possibility of the roof collapsing said fire officials and had to battle the fire from the outside
Would love to get a run down on units asssigned to this job. I believe DC had at least 2 & 2 at the fire and PG had at least 3 & 1. Ther were Mont. Co, companies there that I do not even know where they came from
