The fire chief said it was a '74, but a '68-69 makes a lot more sense. The Forest Service introduced prototype crew cab engines in '68-69 and they were coming online by 1970, so this must have been from the last batch of the older open bench seat engines.
Hi Aaron, I am unable to send you a pm. Please email me at mnsand@visuallink.com. I would appreciate your assistance for information on a Forestry truck in Virginia that is gradually being rehabbed.
Eli, guessing later 90s Model 62 (early model 62s 1995-96 had the side discharge under the box, 97 or 98 they moved it up between the cab and the box where it is on this truck). Builder is probably Boise Mobile Equipment. Should be a Darley JMP-500 2 stage pump.
The Model 62 is a region 5 spec, very unusual to see one in service with the USFS outside of California. Really odd seeing it all the way on the East Coast with the new National Standard lettering on the side.
Type 6 engine and "6 pack" crew truck from Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands (the two National Forests and three National Grasslands in Nebraska are managed as one unit).

Midewin Hotshots
The majority of hotshot crews are located in the West, but there are some exceptions. Midewin IHC is based out of the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie near Wilmington, IL (50 miles SW of Chicago) and is the only hotshot crew in Region 9.
They use smaller Ford F550 based buggies, each carrying up to 7 firefighters and gear in place of the more common 10 person buggies.
This is one of the new forest service national standard type 4 engines, Model 448 (type 4, 4 wheel drive, 800 gallons), based on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in Nevada.

Model 80, type 4 engine, Boise Mobile Equipment
350 gpm PTO, 1000 gallon tank
The model 80 has been the standard Region 6 (Oregon / Washington) type 4 engine since the early 1980s. This engine is based on the Umatilla National Forest (North East Oregon).
Another view of the new national standard Model 448 type 4 engine, this one built on an IH chassis. This engine is from the Fremont-Winema National Forest in central Oregon.
Modoc National Forest Engine 46. The Modoc NF is in North-Eastern California.
2006 IH7400 S&S Model 62 500 / 500
Shortly before going out of business S&S was awarded a contract to build a dozen or so 4x4 engines for Region 5 (California).
One of the key identification features of these engines is the flush mounted compartment doors. I've only encountered 2 or 3 and am not sure if they even completed the entire first batch ordered.
