Not to get too far off topic, but I once had a dispatcher who couldn't think of anything for "Z" so she used Zima over the radio, this was a while ago when the drink was pretty popular in the bars. I still joke with her about that one.

I can only assume it might be a Decon or Haz Mat type rig. Ferrara lists most of these as RESCUES. Also since the FDNY has moved to Ferrara to do Special Operation rigs the NYPD/ESU is doing the same.... So much for E\-One/Saulsbury.

I have a pair of NYPD Traffic Enforcement PED units sent into me...one is a new Impala the other a tow truck



After the PED (I know what that means) they have MHTTN & MHTN respectively...what does THAT mean?

james, to the best of my knowledge that is just an abbreviation for "manhatten" ,which is most likely the borough that those vehicles are assigned to for the parking enforcement district. unknown why it would be abbreviated two diff. ways though.

Its a nice looking car except for the lightbar. I dont like how its so high, but I know its like that to stick up above other vehicles when in traffic.

1951 Plymouth restoration. This is the year that NYPD installed radios in all patrol cars. The roof light isn't exactly right. They had white lettering on a black background and blinking lights inside the housing, no red light on top, no red lights on the fenders.

What is the function of the TARU? Sounds like they have all the technical and communications vehicles used by the NYPD. Is the minivan a undercover vehicle?

Yes, that is basically what they do. That goofy minivan used to be the Police Commisioners car, now a TARU detective has it.

Looks more like a CRV - Critical Response Vehicle. Every day one is held, and designated precients send 1 or 2 RMPs. Often they work in conjunction with Atlas.
