There were actually two seperate apparatus accidents in Beverly in the late 1950's. These events helped spawn the era of the Seagraves. Engine 1's 1929 Ahrens Fox was destroyed when it collided with 2 vehicles in Prides Crossing. But there was also another accident on Corning Street as well. Engine 2's 1945 American La France, and Engine 4's 1948 Ford/Wood Engineering both collided and were destroyed while responding to an alarm.

I'm assuming the accident you have the negatives from is the one on Corning Street.

I would love to see the photos of the accident you have though. Or any Beverly stuff is welcome!

I drove past it a month or so ago, it was still the same Brandywine. Not even the great wall of China could keep you from seeing the vast contents. I usually walk a lap thru it every other month or so picking up odds & ends.

That is hell of a list there. It could be very handy. I've never found anywhere that list's Twp's by state. Many rigs in rural areas will only have the Twp name, and not the nearest geographic location that you could find on a map.

I rode and drove a few, even being in a ladder company. I was cross trained and drove a few of them when DC ran the 2 piece engine company. Was not a Cadillac ride, thats for sure. lol If you look at the first pic of the middle row, you will see a later model Ford conventional cab with air horns. IIRC, that was the old tandem axle wrecker the shops had years ago.

Kevin, correct me if I'm wrong.

Chesterfield Unit 136 (Tanker 13 in the new numbering system) has come home to roost.

I spotted the old rig sitting next to Station 13 in the waning light of late afternoon last Friday. The beacons weren't on,...sun was just at the right angle to light 'em up!

'81 Mack CF685 1000/1500.

Data Plate:

Chesterfield had 5 of these rigs...Units 66, 76, 86, 106, and 136 at stations 6, 7, 8, 10, and 13 respectively. All carried portable tanks, but none of them had jet dumps.

Units 76, and 86 both came to bad ends, both rolling numerous times enroute to a call...86 on River Road, and 76 on Spring Run Road.
Engine 1 to all units, we've got a glow in the sky!

A local motel/restaurant then bought the rig to help combat a persistent gypsy moth infestation, however within a couple of years, the rig was parked at the far end of the property along U.S. Rt.40. Until sometime in 1997, it sat, losing lights, parts, and being beat by the elements. It was finally trundled off to a Cumberland,MD. junkyard after the local paper did a story on its plight.

This photo was taken in 1993, about 5 years into its "exile".

Good shots. Did they replace the tanker with a new one? Has the new Engine 13 gone into service? I know that they wanted to sell the Old Engine 13 intact to a fire department and not to a collector.

Here's another that was near and dear... 1965 FWD/Farrar 250/800, ex-Foxboro,Mass.

Photo at Anne Arundel CO., MD. Training Academy, 1985, by H. Meile.

Supposedly bought by the county for brush/woods fires, but apparently never used, disposition unknown...

Hi John.

Yep, the county replaced three of the tankers (6, 7, 13) with International/S&S elliptical tankers...all are, I believe 1250/1800 with foam. Tankers 8 and 10 (86 and 106) weren't replaced.

I'm not sure if new Engine 13's in service yet, but if not it should be with-in a couple of weeks...I can probably find out for sure within the next day or so (And maybe even get a shot of it while I'm at it! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />). I'll see if I can get the story of 'The Return of Ol' 136 while I'm at it.
