At around 0940 hours, New Castle County Fireboard dispatched a box alarm for a reported house on fire at 1019 Lancaster Ave in Wilmington. The original box consisted of Squad 1, Engine 6, and Skyboom 2. No truck company was available at the time, Ladder 1 was committed to an outside gas leak on the opposite side of town and Tower 2 was switching out into the former Rescue 1 as the tower was out of service again and the reserve Ladder 3 is also out of service, again. Squad 1 arrived, reported a 2 1/2 story, semi-detached, woodframe with smoke showing from the 2nd floor. Deputy 2 (Operations) arrived and assumed command, advising fire extending to the attic, requesting Ladder 1 clear ASAP and also requesting an additional engine company (Engine 5). Companies made an aggressive knock on the fire, limiting it to the room of origin and a small portion of the attic in the original fire building. I got there about 45 minutes after dispatch, so I all I have are aftermath and people shots. First up, the "D" side, fire was in the rear bedroom on this side.

Lastly, Special Operations 1 (SO 1), the former Rescue 1, a 2002 KME which is in reserve and not regularly staffed. Tower 2 is currently using this apparatus as their 2006 Pierce Dash 95' mid mount tower is out of service again and the department's reserve 1998 KME TDA is also out of service. A Pierce Arrow XT TDA has just been ordered and is due in October 2015.
