Thats a good question (I asked about it too). I believe its for the PIO to receive TV or data transmissions. Maybe Monrovia1 might have more info.

Makes sense. That's a pretty nice setup for a PIO (expensive). We tried to get that system on our hazmat (my avatar), but the powers that be ixnayed that one.

Having the ability to get data/images should be a important asset especially in a HAZ MAT situation. Perhaps cooler heads will prevail.

So I know this question has been asked before but I couldn't find the answer. DO the squads run Like the squads of Emergency! fame where a private comes out to do all transports and the private takes a medic with them? Yeah, it's getting better. Once the rig was built, there was no room for a system like that. We tried to justify it due to the fact that we end up end the boonies often, and could use the capability. We use laptops with wireless modems now. We had a tv antenna on the old rig, and wanted the sat. to double as our tv feed/ . Oh well, maybe on the next one. Anyhoo, at least someone has the right idea.

While breezing through the KME factory last week for a final inspection, there were about 10-15 Predators for LA in various states of production, including a bunch of pumpers, a tillered quint, and a heavy rescue. There were also three white Predator pumpers for Santa Barbara County.

I searched but cannot find the answer if it has been posted. Why doesn't LAFD or LACoFD use roll up doors. As somewhat of an add-on to that question, does LAFD and LACoFD try to "one-up" (i.e. compete) with each other or so they operate as each sees fit? I ask because in my neck of the woods, many of the suburbs do things because that's how they do it in XXX.

Yes the Squads today stil operate the way they did back in the days of emergency,

Yes the LA County Fire Dept still uses private ambulances ie AMR, Cole/Schafer, Westmed and Care to transport patients.

Are you sure they were for Santa Barbara, and not Santa Clara County? We have Three in process: a pumper, and two rescue pumpers.



Paint scheme for Santa Barbara- White with blue outlined stripe. Santa Clara is white with yellow outlined stripe. Any pictures of those rigs in process?

Any plans for new USAR rigs at LACoFD? I know they're running the wheels off of the Freightliner/Hackneys!

I haven't heard about any plans for nay New USAR;s however the department is awaiting delivery of a new Heavy Rescue vehicle similar to what LAFD has with a a few exceptions, I think the boom wil have a higer rating than what City HR 56 has

The new Heavy Rescue for LA County is mounted on a Western Star chassis. Saw a photo of the unfinished unit on a different site. Wonder if the body/boom is a Century (maker of the LAFD heavy rescue)
