STRIP MALL FIRE LAS VEGAS, NV 9-23-2016
#1
Around 2:58 this morning Las Vegas Fire and Rescue received numerous calls for flames showing from the rear of a strip mall. According to the Press Release that the PIO put out. Station 3 is right across the street from the scene. They saw flames and heavy smoke on arrival.

The fire ended up at 3 Alarms and I almost did not go as when I saw the second alarm come across my phone I figured they would have it knocked down very quickly. I left the house when the third alarm came over. The fire did 500k worth of damage.

By the time I arrived the fire was knocked down.

What role does CBRNE 3 play?

CBRNE3 is basically the HazMat Side of the Departments here. The City of Las Vegas and City of North Las Vegas call their HazMat Units CBRNE. (Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear) They are very dedicated firefighters and Station 3 is the home to Special Operations in the City of Las Vegas.

Clark County Fire Department use to have a CBRNE team but it was shut down due to budget issues.

UPDATE

The City of North Las Vegas Fire Department announced today that

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE FIRE CHIEF

CONTACT: Cedric Williams, Public Information Officer, (702) 292-9127

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  October 6, 2016

NORTH LAS VEGAS FIRE CAPTAIN DIES IN THE LINE OF DUTY

North Las Vegas, Nevada

It is great sadness and tears in my eyes as I write this press release about a Line of duty death (LODD) of one of our Captains/Firefighters.  I regret to inform you that Captain Yaphet Miller of E-53 (A) Platoon passed away peacefully last night at 2220hrs, with his wife Nickey at his side. We had firefighters and staff on behalf of our department to pay our condolences, and E-53 B crew respectfully escorted Yaphet to the Coroner’s Office where NLVFD members will stand by and then escort Captain Miller to Palm Mortuary.

The North Las Vegas Fire Department (NLVFD) is considering Captain Miller a Line of Duty Death due to the fact that he was working a three alarm fire on his final shift before his medical emergency.
Firefighters put their lives on the line every day to protect their fellow citizens and willingly give all they have for our residents and each other. Captain Miller did that and more each and every day of his career. Yaphet was a dear friend to his brothers and sisters here at The North Las Vegas Fire Department and to so many others in the fire service. He will be missed immeasurably.

Funeral arrangements are pending at this time and will be released once finalized. Our brother, Yaphet Miller, served others with the NLVFD for 22 years and was 43 years old.
Please keep Yaphet's family in your thoughts and prayers.

I have attached to this email a story of what is one of the best moments in the History of the North Las Vegas Fire Department. Captain Miller were able to save a toddler from a most certain demise. Captain Miller and his crew were able to reunite with the young person almost 8 years later.

I did not realize it after the fire that Captain Miller had had a Medical Emergency after the fire but when I read the News Release this afternoon I went back through my photos and found this of him getting his gear off. Rest in Peace Captain.
